On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, H.E. Salama Al Ameemi: Prevention Begins with Awareness and Empowering Individuals

As the 2026 theme, “Trapped Behind the Scam,” draws attention to the growing practice of luring individuals through fraudulent employment opportunities before subjecting them to exploitation and coercing them into carrying out online scams, H.E. Al Ameemi noted that “this evolving form of trafficking in persons underscores the critical importance of strengthening digital awareness, enhancing the ability to distinguish between legitimate and deceptive employment opportunities, and equipping individuals and families with the knowledge required to protect themselves from falling victim to such practices.”

Al Ameemi explained: “At the Family Care Authority, we adopt an integrated, person-centred approach aimed at supporting individuals at risk of violence, exploitation or trafficking in persons.”

She added: “We will continue working closely with our strategic partners to enable affected individuals to access integrated social, psychological, legal and protection services in a manner that safeguards their privacy, preserves their dignity, and enhances their safety and wellbeing.”
