Ministry of Economy reviews the new Consumer Protection Law and its implementing regulation

H.E. Al Saleh: The law and its regulation mark a real turning point in government’s efforts to develop the UAE’s consumer protection system

Abu Dhabi, 11 January 2024:

The Ministry of Economy held a briefing session today, during which it reviewed the main developments concerning the legislation and policies for the development of the UAE’s consumer protection system. These include Federal Decree Law No. 5 of 2023 amending the Federal Law No. 15 of 2020 on consumer protection, and its executive regulation issued by Cabinet Decision No. 66 of 2023. The briefing took place in the presence of H.E. Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy.

Ministry of Economy makes 19 free contract templates available for UAE companies & startups to facilitate trade movement and ease of doing business

 ‘Standard Contracts’ initiative launched in cooperation with Al Tamimi & Company

Abu Dhabi, September 13, 2023:

The Ministry of Economy (MoEc), in cooperation with Al Tamimi & Company, launched the ‘Standard Contracts’ initiative. It is designed to support Emirati entrepreneurs and startups in the country by facilitating their access to a range of most commonly used contract templates needed for the establishment of companies and starting various business activities through the MoEc website, without having to pay any charges.

UAE, New Zealand Enter Preliminary Discussions on Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

  • Delegation of New Zealand trade officials visited the UAE to discuss Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
  • UAE-New Zealand non-oil trade reached US$805 Million in 2022, an increase of 7% on 2021.
  • HE Al Zeyoudi: “New Zealand is a valued partner for the UAE in the Oceania region, and a nation that shares our firm belief in open, rules-based trade as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth.”

 His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, has received The Honourable Damien O’Connor, New Zealand’s Minister of Trade and Export Growth, in Dubai as the two nations explore deeper economic collaboration, including the pursuit of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements with Türkiye and Indonesia come into force

  • The UAE-Türkiye CEPA aims to double bilateral non-oil trade to US$40 billion within five years.
  • The UAE’s CEPA with Indonesia is seeking to push bilateral non-oil trade beyond US$10 billion within five years, and facilitate investment projects worth US$10 billion in the same timeframe.
  • HE Al-Zeyoudi: The implementation of our CEPAs with Türkiye and Indonesia marks a significant step forward in our foreign trade program. Both agreements will unlock significant opportunities for our private sector in two of the world’s most dynamic centers of growth.

Abu Dhabi, 31 August, 2023:

 Two of the United Arab Emirates’ Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements have come into force today, promising to deliver a new era of trade and investment cooperation with two rapidly emerging global economies. The UAE-Türkiye CEPA and the UAE-Indonesia CEPA will now remove or reduce tariffs on a vast array of goods, eliminate unnecessary barriers to trade, and establish pathways for investment into priority sectors such as logistics, energy, food production, fintech, e-commerce, as well as travel and tourism.

 As part of its endeavors to support the UAE’s efforts to raise awareness on the culture of compliance within the business community and to tackle money laundering crimes and combat the financing of terrorism, the Ministry of Economy (MoE) signed a partnership agreement with the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).
