Expert highlights how summer beverages may increase the risk of enamel erosion and tooth sensitivity
22 July 2026; Dubai, UAE: As UAE residents turn to sports drinks, electrolyte beverages, iced coffees and flavoured sparkling waters to stay cool and hydrated during the summer months, dental experts at RAK Hospital are cautioning that some hydration choices may unintentionally affect oral health. While preventing dehydration remains essential, dentists emphasise that the type of drink and how it is consumed can significantly impact teeth.
The UAE’s extreme summer temperatures make adequate hydration a medical necessity. However, many beverages marketed for hydration contain acids and, in some cases, sugars that, when consumed frequently, may contribute to enamel erosion and increase the risk of dental caries over time.
