WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WILL RETURN TO ITS TRADITIONAL KICK OFF VENUE OF ABU DHABI IN MARCH 2023
The World Triathlon Championship Series kick off will take place in Abu Dhabi from 3 – 4 March 2023.
Abu Dhabi, 28th November 2023: With the World Triathlon 2022 season coming to a thrilling close in Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and World Triathlon today announced that the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series will start exactly where it left, in the UAE capital, and finish in Spain, with the 2023 Championship Finals in Pontevedra next September.
The World Triathlon Championship Series will return to its traditional kick-off venue of Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on March 3-4, with stops already confirmed in Yokohama (Japan), Hamburg (Germany), Sunderland (UK); and will finish with the Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, on September 23-24.
The event will continue to build on the emirate’s reputation as the region’s home to top-class international sporting events,and now spectators can look forward to another incredible year of sporting excellence with the World Triathlon Championship Series kicking off in Abu Dhabi in March 2023.
His Excellency Aref Alawani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “Abu Dhabi has a great affinity with the World Triathlon Championship Series, and we are delighted for it to be once again returning in 2023. With a new season comes fresh excitement and we cannot wait to host the event, which will kick-off the 2023 series.
“The World Triathlon Championship is a very important fixture on the Abu Dhabi sporting calendar – which is growing by the year, making our city one of the premier global sporting venues for athletes, teams, coaches and fans.
We areproud to have hosted the World Triathlon Championship Finals this year and look forward to welcoming the athletes and also the community athletes back for more great competition next March.–Triathlon is a very accessible sport, whether swimming, cycling, or running and it was particularly inspiring to see all the community races take part last week. Inclusivity is very important to Abu Dhabi Sport Council when it comes to our sporting endeavours, and Abu Dhabi has been and always will be ahuge supporter in encouraging people at all levels and capabilities to take part in sport.We hope next year’ event will be another to educate and inspire as we continue to champion triathlon in the UAE.’’

The World Triathlon Championship series kick-off in Abu Dhabi is expected to attract local, regional, and international triathletes who will compete across several categories: Elite Men & Women; Elite U23 Men & Women, Elite Para Men & Women and Age Group entries.

About World Triathlon Championship Finals 2022
Running between 23 – 26 November 2022, the World Triathlon Championship Finals will take place in Abu Dhabi – the first ever city in the MENA region to host this prestigious event. The Championship Final is the crown jewel of the World Triathlon annual calendar where the World Champions across both elites and amateurs will be crowned.
The 2022 season finale is set to welcome more than 7,500 local, regional, and international triathletes to the UAE’s premium sporting destination – Yas Island. As well as drawing some of the world’s most well-known and respected athletes to Abu Dhabi, more than 25,000 spectators and national federations members are also expected to attend what promises to be a fantastic four days of elite competition and grassroots community participation, with entry open to athletes of various age levels and abilities.
Previous hosts include London, Budapest, Beijing, Auckland, Chicago, Gold Coast, Lausanne, and Edmonton.
