It’s 8:30am at Expo Center Sharjah. The doors to the 16th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) haven’t yet swung open, but its halls hum with anticipation – and quiet ambition. Among the first to set up in the bustling Artist’s Lane is Tamara Mohammed, poised behind a neat display of bracelets, charms, and hand-stitched tote bags. At just 21, Tamara represents a growing tide of young entrepreneurs choosing SCRF not just as a marketplace, but as a launchpad for creative careers.

SCRF 2025: Child’s agency in choosing books should be respected, women authors emphasise

A fascinating panel discussion at the 16th annual Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival saw the writers conclude that reading choices of earlier generations would not work for children now

There is a fact that stigma is the strongest barrier to reach to mental health support or treatment.

 »» We cannot deny the power of cultural stigma as the biggest barrier to seek mental health care. To be specific, if you have a mental illness; you are a sinner or you are possessed by evil spirits or you have a bad karma. Mental health is a taboo or shame rather than a condition that may be addressed by professionals and that can be healed, alleviated or cleared up.  It is not uncommon that if you have a family member who seems odd, this member is hidden as much as possible as it brings shame to family.
