TiE Women MENA 2025 launches sixth edition to champion the next generation of women entrepreneurs

Applications open until June 15, 2025, inviting women-led startups across MENA to join a transformative entrepreneurial journey

Dubai, UAE – 24 April 2025 The Dubai chapter of TiE Global has officially launched the sixth annual TiE Women MENA 2025 competition, an empowering initiative designed to support and elevate women entrepreneurs across the region. The program runs five parallel tracks: TiE Women Emirati, TiE Women UAE, TiE Women Saudi Arabia, TiE Women Egypt, and TiE Women Rest of MENA.

The competition kicks off with an application phase open until June 15, 2025. Through multiple rounds of screening, an impartial jury comprising TiE Dubai Charter Members will identify the most innovative ventures across the five tracks. Shortlisted entries will move forward to regional competitions in September, with finalists presenting their startups in a series of competitive pitch events. Winners from each track will then advance to the MENA finals, set to take place during Expand North Star at GITEX Global in Dubai Harbour this October. The journey concludes with the Global Finals, to be hosted at the TiE Global Summit in Jaipur, India, in December.

At the 16th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, young audiences explore storytelling and illustration with the award-winning artist behind This is Not a Panther

Sharjah, April 24, 2025 

On the opening day of the 16th edition of Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF), children as young as four gathered for a session with Cristina Pieropan, the renowned Italian illustrator whose latest book, This is Not a Panther, made its regional debut at the 12-day event. That the book is written in Spanish, illustrated by an Italian artist, and is being showcased in the UAE says much about the festival’s reach – and its quiet mission to foster cross-cultural understanding from the earliest years.

Sitting amongst her attentive audience, Cristina’s warmth filled the room. “This is a real story – my story,” she told the children, her words lovingly translated into Arabic by a festival volunteer. The book recounts a young Cristina’s desire for an unusual pet: a panther, inspired by an old book from her grandfather’s library. “My family gave me many presents – a parrot, a kitten, a dog – but not a panther,” she recounted, her tale sparking giggles.

AED 1.92 million in treatment funding marks an inspired Q1 for FOCP and 110 cancer patients

  • 31.9% of funds were allocated to medication and pharmaceutical supplies, 27.7% to radiotherapy, and 23.9% to chemotherapy
  • 9.3% supported bone marrow transplants, 6% covered diagnostic tests and lab analyses, and 1.2% went towards surgical procedures
  • Provided emotional support to 342 patients through 10 events held in partnership with seven sponsors
  • Organised nine community and awareness events with the participation of 650 individuals, in collaboration with 11 partners
  • Held 1st Board of Directors meeting; welcomed HE Najla Al Midfa as a new member

Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) continued to advance its mission of delivering medical and emotional support to cancer patients and their families during the first quarter of 2025. The Sharjah-based organisation allocated AED 1.92 million to fund treatment for 110 patients across the UAE, reinforcing its unwavering commitment to alleviating the burden of cancer care.
