Global gold demand hits new high as prices soar in 2024

The World Gold Council’s Q4 and Full Year 2024 Gold Demand Trends report reveals that total annual gold demand hit a new, record high of 4,974t, driven by strong, sustained central bank buying and growth in investment demand. The combination of record high gold prices, and volumes resulted in the highest ever total value of demand at $382bn.

Central banks continued to buy gold at pace in 2024, with purchases exceeding 1,000t for the third year in a row. Buying ramped up significantly in Q4, reaching 333t and bringing the annual total for central banks to 1,045t.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, February 5, 2025: When the US-based IBM Center for the Business of Government wrote in a study in March 2000 that “new strategies, new ideas, and new technologies were necessary for airports” for broadening economy, there were few takers even in the world’s biggest countries which a year earlier had handled over 8.3 million flights and 614 million passengers. In 2000, the number of passengers carried by global airlines stood at 2.3 billion.

Twenty-five years later, a survey by Amadeus, the world’s leading provider of travel technology, revealed 56 percent of airport leaders are making technology investments for ‘enhancing’ customer experience and 52 percent for ‘improving’ operational efficiency.
