أكد البروفيسور لي هي سو الخبير في ثقافة الشرق الأوسط والثقافة الإسلاميّة أن نهضة كوريا العلمية تأثرت تاريخياً بشكل كبير بمعارف وعلوم الحضارة العربية الإسلامية في أوج عطائها، مشيراً إلى أن جذور العلاقات الكورية بالعالمين العربي والإسلامي تشكلت على يد التجار، وكشفت عن الكثير من القواسم المشتركة بين الثقافتين وخاصة في السمات الاجتماعية والعلاقات الأسرية والقيم الأخلاقية.

Prolific Arab novelist Ibrahim Al-Koni calls immigrants seekers of freedom

At a freewheeling discussion on the first day of Sharjah International Book Fair 2023, the Germany-based author calls the desert the cradle of civilisation.

“The desert is the cradle of civilisation, and it played a pivotal role in shaping my personality,” stated Ibrahim Al-Koni, the Libyan-born novelist who has been named the Cultural Personality of the Year at the ongoing 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, running at Sharjah Expo Centre from November 1-12, carrying the theme ‘We Speak Books’.

Sustainable cooperation is the need of the hour

The UAE and Korea see greater scope for bilateral cooperation in culture, education,
renewable energy and other key sectors

“Islam is not just a religion, it teaches coexistence and its people have noble ethics,” noted Lee Hee Soo, Emeritus Professor, Department of Cultural Anthropology, Hanyang University, Seoul in a discussion on “The Interconnection between Islamic world and the Republic of Korea” at the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, which is being held from November 1-12 at Sharjah Expo Centre.

Prof Lee underscored the need to study Islam in a true manner and the need to have sustainable cooperation.

Moderated by Kim Ho, Professor at Seoul National University Asia Centre, the talk highlighted future plans for South Korea and the UAE, such as the construction of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, agricultural and life science exchange, medical cooperation, space industry cooperation, and cultural and artistic exchange.
