Canadian University Dubai students create innovations to tackle sustainability challenges

CUD partners with HOGENT University to stage Hackathon

March 03,2025: Dubai, UAE: Students from Canadian University Dubai have presented their solutions to a range of sustainability challenges as part of a Hackathon staged in collaboration with HOGENT University, Belgium. Focussing on Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, the students tackled issues such as food waste, traffic congestion and accessible public transportation, with specific reference to the cities of Dubai and Ghent. The top three student teams won a share in AED 10,000 prize money for their groundbreaking ideas.

Staged under the banner ‘Collaborate, Innovate, Compete’, the CUD-HOGENT Hackathon was the first cross-border event of its kind for both institutions and saw 80 students from the two universities collaborate to develop ideas on how to make communities more inclusive, resilient and sustainable. Taking first place with their project FoodLoop were Aamena Tinwala, Farha Mohamed Rashad, and Sebastien Kirk Uy, working alongside three students from HOGENT University, Maxim Derom, Sarah Lootens and Marit Holvoet.

Canada’s world-leading AI ecosystem inspires New Master of Science degree in Dubai

December 16,2024 : Dubai, UAE: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has announced the launch of a cutting-edge Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MScAI) degree to meet the growing demand for advanced skilled in this rapidly evolving field. The industry-oriented program, developed in collaboration with CUD and its Canadian partners, aligns seamlessly with Canada’s leading role in the strategic advancement of AI globally.

The curriculum also supports the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which aims to transform the nation into a world leader in AI, and to align with the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report, which identifies AI as a key driver of job creation.

Canadian University Dubai launches Master of Public Health program

New graduate degree to develop public health leaders and increase capacity in the sector

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has launched an innovative new graduate program in public health to advance public health professionals’ careers and boost human capital in the sector. The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree builds on the university’s existing partnerships with global organisations to reduce the worldwide deficit in public health workers.

The first intake will be in the Spring 2025 semester, offering opportunities both for recent graduates to transition into the public health field and for current working professionals to advance into leadership positions in the industry.

Canadian University Dubai and University of Oxford launch MENA Global Health Network

Inauguration ceremony unveils agenda for accelerated regional public health research

October 29,2024 : Dubai, UAE: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) and the University of Oxford have officially launched the MENA regional hub of The Global Health Network (TGHN) during a ceremony hosted at the institution’s campus in Dubai City Walk.

TGHN MENA will specifically focus on research to inform evidence for the responsible use of artificial intelligence in global healthcare.

Canadian climate change expert joins Dubai’s top-ranking institution

October 09,2024 , Dubai, UAE: Renowned Canadian climate change thought leader, Dr. Adam Fenech, has been appointed as the new Provost of Canadian University Dubai (CUD). Recognized for his pioneering research in climate change and adaptation, the award-winning academic joins the QS #1-ranked university in Dubai from the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada.
