Stories resonate most deeply with children when they are rooted in truth and lived experience, agreed three celebrated children’s authors during a panel discussion titled “Turning Pages, Changing Young Readers’ Lives” at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025).

Moderated by media presenter Lamya Tawfik, the session brought together Syrian-British author Nadine Kaadan, Angolan writer Ondjaki, and Indonesian author Reda Gaudiamo, who shared their views on authentic storytelling, cultural identity, and the importance of allowing children to develop independent reading tastes.

Children unleash creativity and build new skills in  nature-inspired craft adventures at SIBF 2025


 At the Sharjah International Book Fair, the Bonsai Tree workshop teaches young minds the art of mindfulness, sustainability and imagination through hands-on creativity

At the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025), children aged eight to fourteen took part in the “Bonsai Tree” workshop, a nature-inspired craft session that doubled as a lesson in patience, creativity, and sustainability.

The activity was an imaginative exploration of how simple materials can teach valuable life lessons. Each participant received a small model resembling a skeletal bonsai tree. Clusters of aluminium wires were twisted together and fixed to a wooden base, evoking a leafless autumn tree.

The sizzle of frying paneer and the aroma of chilli-infused honey filled the air at the Cookery Corner of the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025) as New Zealand-based cookbook author Ashia Ismail-Singer took the stage to demonstrate her signature recipe Parmesan-crumbed paneer drizzled with hot honey. The dish, like the author herself, draws flavour from many worlds.
