‘I am trying to guide the youngsters as much as possible,’ says Dubai Capitals’ Sikandar Raza

Dubai, 25^th January 2024: The Dubai Capitals will take confidence from their performance in the first two matches of the DP World ILT20 when they take the field against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Zimbabwean Sikandar Raza said, “I do my homework on all the players in the squad, especially if I am playing with them for the first time. Jake (Fraser-McGurk) has had a fantastic BBL, Max (Holden) has had a great County season as well. UAE wicketkeeper-batter Vrittya (Aravind) has hit back-to-back centuries against Nepal. So, as a senior, you show your support by approaching these players and giving them confidence, letting them know that you are tracking their progress,” said the star all-rounder.

Dubai, 23rd January 2024: Dubai Capitals’ bowler Dushmantha Chameera picked up four wickets in the DP World ILT20 clash against Sharjah Warriors, but it was not enough to counter the batting prowess of Johnson Charles, who helped his team chase down the target of 170 in a closely fought encounter at the Dubai International Stadium on Monday, January 22.

Speaking after the match, the Sri Lankan bowler said, “Johnson Charles is an attacking player. We made the mistake of bowling length balls, which he put away to the boundary. There was a little bit of dew on the pitch after the tenth over and that definitely hurt us.”

This did not stop Chameera from shining with the ball, also taking the wicket of Charles, who scored 93 off 51. Despite the loss, he was optimistic with the various other aspects of his team’s performance. “This is a disappointing result considering that we did well with the bat and on the field. We could’ve defended 170 runs,” added the right-armer.

Big breakthrough for DP World ILT20 as ICC awards the tournament List A status

Dubai, 11 December 2023: The DP World International League T20 has received a major boost as the International Cricket Council has awarded it the prestigious List A status. This means that the tournament will be recognised as an official T20 tournament – all tournament statistics will be recognised as official T20 statistics. The List A status will be in place from Season 2 which begins next month.  

The DP World ILT20 is the first ICC Associate Member league to have received the recognition.
