Cleveland Clinic Uses Noninvasive Ultrasound Technology to Treat Some Liver Tumors
April 29, 2024, Cleveland: Global health system Cleveland Clinic has started using a recently FDA-approved ultrasound device to treat liver tumors. The non-invasive technology, called histotripsy, uses brief high-intensity ultrasound pulses that disrupt and kill the targeted tumor cells.

March 4, 2024, CLEVELAND: Many people with diabetes are able to fast safely and enjoy the full spiritual, physical and mental health benefits of Ramadan, provided they are medically cleared and take some necessary precautions, says an expert from global health system Cleveland Clinic.
“Alongside spiritual practices, charitable endeavors and spending time with loved ones, people with diabetes can focus on improving their health during Ramadan,” says endocrinologist Hasan A. Husni, M.D. “Lifestyle factors such as a poor diet, carrying excess weight, smoking and lack of exercise can all have a negative impact on blood sugar and insulin levels, making diabetes more difficult to manage. Ramadan provides an ideal opportunity to focus on adopting a healthier lifestyle that reduces or eliminates these diabetes risk factors, while also reducing cholesterol levels and improving cardiovascular health.”

September 7, 2023, CLEVELAND: Medications developed over the past few years to treat migraines are significantly improving the quality of life for those with the debilitating condition, according to an expert from global health system Cleveland Clinic.
“Before 2018, when the FDA-approved the first calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) inhibitor to prevent migraines, we had to rely on medications originally designed to treat other diseases, says Emad Estemalik MD, MBA, Section Head for Headache and Facial Pain at Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute. “Today, however, there are several CGRP inhibitors available that have been developed to prevent or to relieve the symptoms of migraines specifically.”
