Canadian University Dubai alumni demonstrate diverse pathways to entrepreneurship

Business graduates share different routes to becoming business founders

February 05,2024, Dubai, UAE: As entrepreneurship becomes an increasingly popular career choice among recent graduates, two alumni from the Canadian University Dubai (CUD) School of Management have shared their different pathways into the business start-up world. Born into an entrepreneurial family, e-business graduate, Mugheera Nadeem, set up his first business in his second year of university, while marketing major, Saad Ramadan, spent several years in the corporate world before his entrepreneurial spirit was ignited when he spotted a gap in the market.

A serial entrepreneur from an early age, Nadeem is now Managing Director of Madocsa Shipping, a logistics company that he established in 2022 to deliver supply chain solutions in some of the world’s most turbulent regions. Discussing his journey, Nadeem said, “I had always dreamed of following my father’s career path to become an entrepreneur and the opportunity arose during my first internship at CUD. I was placed with an organization handling defence logistics and became fascinated by the industry, quickly realizing that’s where my future would lie.”

Canadian University Dubai partners with Harvard Model Congress Middle East to empower future leaders 

 

200 students convene on campus for regional model congress  

Release date, Dubai, UAE: The Canadian University Dubai (CUD) Department of Communication and Media has partnered with Harvard Model Congress Middle East (HMCME) to host a regional youth conference aimed at empowering the leaders of tomorrow. The gathering was convened at CUD for a second time, assembling over 200 high school students to debate and develop practical solutions to some of the biggest current global challenges. 

Across the three-day event, delegates from 23 schools representing 10 countries took on the roles of US Representatives, US Senators, and UN delegates to negotiate complex worldwide issues such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, sustainable food systems, global energy policy, and the international migration crisis. Working in collaboration with Harvard students, the high school pupils debated, negotiated and developed policy, to pass a range of resolutions around issues including the regulation of agriculture, the privacy of data, peaceful humanitarian aid, and the prioritization of gender equality in education. This year, Speakfluence were the winners of best small delegation, while Yongsan International School won best large delegation.

CUD environmental program becomes first in the Middle East to receive ECO Canada accreditation

Renowned international sector organization endorses B.Sc. in Public Health-Environmental Health Management

Following a thorough assessment, the program has proved to meet the international standard of excellence in environmental practice, aligning with the evolving demands of the global environmental workforce.

Canadian University Dubai students develop solutions to promote smart green buildings

Project combines advanced technology and sustainability principles to improve efficiency

December 19,2023, Dubai, UAE:A team of students from the Canadian University Dubai (CUD) School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology; has developed an innovative solution to help improve the health and efficiency of residential and commercial buildings. Known as Agri-Connect, the technology combines artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and elements of urban architecture, smart agriculture, and smart cities, to create an ecosystem that supports vertical farming within intelligent and responsive buildings.

Developed to align with the ‘Future Disruptors Program 2023’ competition by Software AG, the innovation was presented at this year’s Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) Global Dubai. The project is the combined efforts of three Computer Engineering and Computational Science students, Yasmine Sadek, Moustafa Sherif, and Ayman Samsudeen, along with a recent graduate, Adel Yousefi.

Canadian University Dubai students secure AED 10K backing for innovation to tackle food waste

Young entrepreneurs pitch to investors at Global Entrepreneurship Week Finale

November 28,2023 , Dubai, UAE:A team of students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has secured AED 10,000backing for their innovation, which aims to promote responsible consumption and reduce food waste. The award was made during the Finale of the University’s program of events for Global Entrepreneurship Week, which saw ten teams pitch their innovations to a panel of industry experts, investors and established entrepreneurs.

Known as Byte, the winning innovation builds on existing artificial intelligence technology to deliver a smart solution to meal planning. It aims to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) targeted at food security and responsible consumption. The project pitch was delivered by second year Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security student, Ralph Sengco, representing a cross-disciplinary teamthat also included business students Hanna Gajol and Rachelle Hombria.

Explaining the inspiration behind the project, Sengco said, “The idea came from my own experience of mealtimes as a busy student, thinking about what to cook based on what is in the fridge, keeping in mind product expiry dates, and the need to create something quick, delicious and nutritious .The technology we have developed offers a one-stop solution that creates recipes tailored to the ingredients available, as well as other criteria based on the user’s preferences. It also takes account of dietary requirements and food allergies and intolerances.”
