Special Olympics UAE Announces New Board of Trustees

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – June 17, 2025—Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Founder and Honorary President of Special Olympics UAE, has approved the new structure of the organization’s Board of Trustees. The new board reflects a renewed commitment to inclusive leadership and deeper engagement with families and athletes, placing them at the heart of institutional development.

Engineer Sharif Afif Al Shami, the father of a Special Olympics UAE athlete, will chair the new board. His appointment highlights the organization’s dedication to strengthening effective partnerships with families and ensuring their integral role in shaping programs and initiatives that serve People of Determination.

The new Special Olympics UAE Board of Trustees includes individuals with extensive experience across health, education, media, and social development sectors.

Special Olympics UAE’s Unified Robotics League crowns winners of its largest finals ever

  • The 4th edition of the Unified Robotics League concluded with over 1,600 participants from across the Emirates.
  • 202 teams from 165 schools competed in the qualifiers.
  • A 109% increase in participation compared to last year.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – June 12, 2025: The fourth and largest edition of the Unified Robotics League concluded today at Space42 Arena in Abu Dhabi, setting a benchmark for inclusive STEM education in the UAE. Organized annually by Special Olympics UAE and supported by ADNOC as a strategic partner, the national league welcomed more than 1,600 participants across the country, including 1,200 who competed in today’s finals.
