At a freewheeling discussion on the first day of Sharjah International Book Fair 2023, the Germany-based author calls the desert the cradle of civilisation.

“The desert is the cradle of civilisation, and it played a pivotal role in shaping my personality,” stated Ibrahim Al-Koni, the Libyan-born novelist who has been named the Cultural Personality of the Year at the ongoing 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, running at Sharjah Expo Centre from November 1-12, carrying the theme ‘We Speak Books’.

“Islam is not just a religion, it teaches coexistence and its people have noble ethics,” noted Lee Hee Soo, Emeritus Professor, Department of Cultural Anthropology, Hanyang University, Seoul in a discussion on “The Interconnection between Islamic world and the Republic of Korea” at the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair, which is being held from November 1-12 at Sharjah Expo Centre.
Prof Lee underscored the need to study Islam in a true manner and the need to have sustainable cooperation.
Moderated by Kim Ho, Professor at Seoul National University Asia Centre, the talk highlighted future plans for South Korea and the UAE, such as the construction of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, agricultural and life science exchange, medical cooperation, space industry cooperation, and cultural and artistic exchange.

في 1 نوفمبر 2023/ افتتح صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي عضو المجلس الأعلى حاكم الشارقة، صباح اليوم الأربعاء، بحضور سمو الشيخ سلطان بن محمد بن سلطان القاسمي ولي العهد، نائب حاكم الشارقة، وسمو الشيخ سلطان بن أحمد بن سلطان القاسمي نائب حاكم الشارقة، فعاليات الدورة الـ 42 من معرض الشارقة الدولي للكتاب، الذي يقام تحت شعار “نتحدث كتباً”، في الفترة من 1-12 نوفمبر الجاري، في مركز إكسبو الشارقة.

وأكد صاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي، خلال كلمة ألقاها في حفل افتتاح المعرض أن اللغة العربية هي اللغة الأصل لكافة لغات العالم، لأنها لغة سيدنا آدم عليه السلام التي اختصه بها الله سبحانه وتعالى، وأن هناك أمور غير صحيحة تاريخياً في دراسة اللغات واللسانيات في العالم يجب أن يتم تصحيحها، وهو ما سيشتمل عليه (قاموس لغات العالم) الذي سيصدر لاحقاً، وذلك ضمن جهود سموه وبحوثه العلمية في تاريخ اللغة العربية لحمايتها ونشرها، متناولاً سموه أهمية المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية.
وتحدث صاحب السمو حاكم الشارقة عن أبرز ما جاء في المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية، قائلاً // أُطلق عليه اسم “المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية”، وهو متعةٌ للقارئ ويعرض تاريخ هذه اللغة منذ بداياتها، حيث تمرّ بك الأحداث والوصف في كل شيء، في الشعر، والأدب وغيرها. وهذا المعجم لا يكشف فقط عن الكلمة ومعناها وإنما يقدم وصفاً شاملاً //.
ولفت سموه إلى الجهد الكبير الذي يُبذل لتنفيذ المعجم التاريخي مستعرضاً مقارنة حول القاموس اللغوي لمملكة السويد الذي عمل عليه 137 شخص لمدة 140 سنة وكان نتاجه 39 مجلد و33 ألف صفحة، بينما المعجم التاريخي للغة العربية يعمل عليه 500 من العلماء والمدققين والمحررين وعلى مدى 6 سنوات سينهون 110 مجلداً عدد صفحاته 81 ألف صفحة.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated today (Wednesday) the 42nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) with the theme “We Speak Books,” at Expo Centre Sharjah until November 12. The inauguration was held in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The Ruler of Sharjah was received by HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA; Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office; Sheikh Khalid Bin Isam Bin Saqer Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Department; Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah; Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD); Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqer Al Qasimi, Chairman of Districts Affairs Department; and HE Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture and Youth.
Bodour Al Qasimi reviews final preparations for SIBF 2023

On Tuesday, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, the Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), inspected the final preparations for the 42nd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), taking place in Expo Centre Sharjah, November 1-12 under the theme ‘We Speak Books’. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the venue’s readiness to welcome guests and visitors to the book fair’s largest edition yet, which is welcoming 108 participating countries this year.
