Primary school children donning smartwatches and digital watches travelled back in time to discover how their ancestors told time using water at a science workshop called “The Water Clock” at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2025), which got under way at Expo Center Sharjah on Wednesday.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated today (Wednesday), the 16th annual edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2025), organised by the Sharjah Book Authority, which runs until May 4 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the theme ‘Dive into Books’.
Upon arrival, His Highness was welcomed by HH Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), H.E. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; H.E. Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Egypt’s Minister of Culture; alongside heads and directors of Sharjah’s leading cultural and educational institutions, as well as authors, intellectuals, and specialists in children’s literature who are part of SCRF this year.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Ruler of Sharjah marked the opening of the festival, which was followed by a delightful artistic performance by children. Through their performance, they expressed their gratitude to His Highness for continually supporting children and their love for SCRF and the numerous opportunities it offers through its events and activities.

Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority under the theme “Dive Into Books”, at Expo Centre Sharjah, the event will host 122 publishers from 22 countries and over 200 writers, illustrators, and cultural figures from the UAE and around the world.

The Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2025) has announced its cultural programme, featuring over 50 sessions and events led by more than 50 experts and specialists, including Arab and international writers and thinkers. Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority, the 16th edition of the festival will take place from April 23 to May 4 at Expo Centre Sharjah, under the theme “Dive into Books.”
The cultural programme will commence on Wednesday, April 23, with two sessions at the Culture Forum. The first, titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Rise of New Writers?”, will feature Dr. Sumaya Al Maadeed, Asma Zeinel, and Talib Ghuloom. The second session, “Making Big Ideas Simple”, will host Linda Booth Sweeney and Fatima Al Mazrouei.

The Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) returns for its 16th edition, bringing the colourful world of illustrated storytelling to life through its lively Comics Corner, where creativity, imagination and hands-on fun come together.
Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority from April 23 to May 4 at Expo Centre Sharjah, the Comics Corner will host 150 engaging activities, including hands-on workshops and interactive sessions. Designed for comic book fans, young creatives, and curious families, the programme offers everything from manga drawing and digital storytelling to animation, 3D design, and more.
