Successful CPR Resuscitation at Al Zahra Hospital: A Team Effort

At Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, our dedicated emergency team recently faced a challenging yet triumphant case of cardiac arrest. A 50-year-old patient was brought to our emergency room by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services amidst ongoing CPR. The DCAS team had already performed CPR for 10 minutes, administered defibrillation twice due to occurrences of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation, and managed two episodes of seizure.

The patient was not conscious but was agitated, indicating a critical need for immediate intervention. Our emergency team swiftly moved to secure the airway, preparing the necessary medications for intubation. Suddenly, the patient experienced VF again. We delivered another defibrillation shock and proceeded with the intubation without delay, ensuring the airway was managed effectively.

Surgeon connects newborn’s esophagus with complex muscle-sparing technique

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; July 04, 2024: The arrival of a newborn is a moment of unparalleled joy for parents. However, for German couple Tim and Sarah, employees of a UAE-based airline, this joy was tempered by worry when their first child, Kai, was born with a rare and life-threatening congenital condition: Tracheoesophageal Fistula (TEF) with Esophageal Atresia (EA).

Sarah’s pregnancy had been uneventful, with her regular scans presenting no concerning signs. However, when Kai was born, it was clear something was not quite right. He struggled to swallow his saliva, which dribbled from his mouth, and his breathing was consistently faster than normal. The neonatal team at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children quickly intervened, inserting a small tube into Kai’s mouth to clear the oral cavity. In a healthy newborn, this tube would pass unimpeded through the esophagus into the stomach, but in Kai’s case, it curled up high in his chest, indicating a blockage.
