Emirati Accomplishments Celebrated with Honorary Degrees at Heriot-Watt University Dubai’s Graduation Ceremonies

Honorary degrees conferred upon Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and His Excellency Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi for their contributions to sustainability ahead of COP28

November 22, 2023, Dubai, UAE: Heriot-Watt University Dubai marked outstanding Emirati accomplishments and valuable contributions to the nation by bestowing honorary degrees upon Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), as well as His Excellency Dr Abdullah Bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, former Minister of Climate Change and Environment, during the winter graduation ceremonies held in Dubai yesterday and today. Ahead of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) meeting in Dubai at the end of the month, both degrees were awarded in recognition of their outstanding contributions in the area of sustainability.

Bodour Al Qasimi’s staffing strategy delivers 93% rise in Emirati hires at American University of Sharjah in 2023

  • Surge in homegrown talent to strengthen UAE’s burgeoning knowledge economy;

Sharjah, November 22, 2023

The majority of new employees who joined American University of Sharjah in 2023 were UAE citizens, and most of them women, AUS President Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi has announced to the university Board of Trustees.

The 93% surge in local hires in just seven months is a result of Sheikha Bodour’s Emiratisation strategy, instigated in April 2023 in concert with the Sharjah Directorate of Human Resources. In addition, 80% of the new recruits were female, taking the university closer to the gender balance it aims to implement across the workforce.

دبي، نوفمبر 2023 – إن زيادة مستوى الوعي بأهمية التعليم المبكر بات من أهم وأبرز الاتجاهات الرئيسية في سوق التعليم على مستوى دولة الإمارات والذي شهد نموًا ملحوظًا خلال السنوات الماضية، تزامناً مع زيادة وعي أولياء الأمور بأهمية الفترة الزمنية الأولى لتكوين الأطفال لاسيما السنوات الثلاث الأولى وأثر التعليم في تلك الفترة. حيث تشير الأبحاث إلى توقعات بزيادة حجم سوق التعليم في الإمارات خلال الفترة من عام 2021 إلى عام 2026 ليصل إلى 718 مليون دولار أمريكي. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، من المتوقع أن يشهد السوق تسارعًا بمعدل نمو سنوي مركب يبلغ 5.03٪ خلال الفترة المتوقعة، وفقًا لتقرير نشرته شركة “تيكنافيو”.

The American University in Dubai Secures “The Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year Award” by THE Awards MENA 2023

Judges praise the institution for its vision, implementation and positive results

A commitment to embedding both innovative teaching and entrepreneurship into degrees was central to the American University in Dubai Learning and Teaching strategy, which has secured this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Award.

Supported by the university’s Center for Research, Innovation and Design (CRID), faculty have integrated virtual and augmented reality into classroom learning – with biology students now able to conduct experiments in a fully immersive VR laboratory course or travel via VR inside a human body or a cell to gain insight into complex biological concepts.
