The hospital in Dubai becomes the first private health facility in the GCC offering gene therapy for Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a rare genetic disorder significantly diminishing the patient’s quality of life.

Dubai – October 04, 2023: Medcare Women & Children Hospital (MWCH) in Dubai has successfully treated 71 children suffering from life-threatening Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a disorder affecting the motor neurons, the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement, located in the spinal cord. MWCH has emerged as the private health facility in the GCC to offer this life-saving gene treatment through a globally managed access programme for gene therapies.

Dubai, UAE, 4th October – Swisslog, a member of the KUKA Group, is pleased to introduce Jens Schmale as its next CEO, effective 1 January 2024. Jens is currently CEO of Swisslog EMEA and brings a wealth of experience in the logistics sector to his new role.

Jens, 49, joined Swisslog in 2020 where he was responsible for the company’s AutoStore business unit until he took on the role of CEO of Swisslog EMEA in September 2021. Before Swisslog, he held several senior leadership positions with leading logistics providers.
