In this elderly lady with multiple comorbidities including a permanent cardiac pacemaker on anticoagulants, history of arrhythmias and massive lower GI bleed in shock on inotropes in ICU, the journey was always going to be arduous.
I remember she continued to be critical despite fluid resuscitation, multiple blood transfusions and inotropes. There was a spurting arterial vessel bleeding in rectum which could be managed successfully with endoscopic clipping. Thanks to our endoscopy team for being there with their calm demeanor and experience to assist in such a life-threatening procedure. Thanks to the entire ICU team with special mention – Dr Anas, Dr Khamis and Dr Amr for their expert critical care and unending round the clock efforts, she is walking back home yesterday. You all were the backbone of her care.
