Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) Reforms Its Arbitration Court, Appointing Reputable Arbitration Experts with Diverse Expertise from Around the World

Leading Arbitration Centre Reinforces Position and Continues its Development Journey to Provide Exceptional Dispute Resolution Services

Dubai, UAE, April 2023 – Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) is pleased to announce the reformation of a new court comprising thirteen reputable international arbitration experts, representing 11 nationalities. The newly appointed members bring a wealth of experience in arbitration across different sectors and geographies, demonstrating DIAC’s commitment to providing exceptional dispute resolution services that embody excellence, integrity, and equity.

The reformed court comprises esteemed members, including Dr. Michael Pryles AO PBM – President of DIAC Arbitration Court, Erin Miller Rankin – Vice President of DIAC Arbitration Court, Dr. Hassan Arab, Abdulwahid Alulama, Mohammed Rashed Alsuwaidi, Professor Albert Van den Berg, Professor Emilia Onyema, Hiroo Advani, Ilya Nikiforov, Ning FEI, Dr. Rouven F. Bodenheimer, Rupert Reed KC, and Wendy Miles KC.

DIAC’s new court plays a vital role in the supervision of case administration and the proper application of DIAC’s arbitration rules. The reformation of the court significantly improves DIAC’s case management processes and procedures and further boosts the Centre’s arbitration services. This change also represents its Board of Directors’ commitment to enhancing the efficiency and efficacy of arbitration as a dispute resolution method, further reinforcing DIAC’s position as the leading arbitration centre in Dubai.

DIAC has been an independent entity since September 2021, following the issuance of Decree No. (34) of 2021 by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. DIAC’s new Arbitration Rules were introduced in 2022 to optimise and improve the efficiency of arbitration procedures, further consolidating Dubai’s position as an international dispute resolution hub through alternative methods. As part of DIAC’s strategy, the Centre has launched its new visual identity, formed an advisory committee, launched a metaverse, expanded the case management team, and improved corporate governance and operations to enhance further its capabilities and capacity in the field of international alternative dispute resolution.
