Desert Cubs DPS Centre Hosted First-Ever Under-12
Test Match Championship in their DPS Dubai Centre
- This was the first occasion when U-12 boys took the field for 90 overs each day
- Mumbai Baazigars took home the winner’s trophy; Chennai Super Wings became the runner-up in the inaugural U-12 test match championship
Dubai; 08 Feb 2022: In a last-ball thriller at Desert Cubs DPS Centre, Mumbai Baazigars emerged as the winner of the inaugural Under-12 Test Match Championship held in Dubai. The tournament organised in line with ICC rules and the presence of neutral umpires was played on 22nd and 29th January.
In a thrilling encounter for the two-day test match championship, Under-12 teams – Mumbai Baazigars and Chennai Super Wings locked horns and played 90 overs on each day of the play. Team Chennai Super Wings scored 307 runs and Mumbai Baazigars replied with 348 runs in the first innings. Chennai returned to score 275 runs in their second innings to set a target of 234. After a tense session of play, both teams were in the game. Down to the last over with only one wicket to spare, Mumbai Baazigars chased down a stiff target of 235.
Head Coach of the Desert Cubs DPS Centre, Mr. Prosanta Chanda was proud of the young talent that emerged under his leadership.
“It is really inspiring to see such young boys to show so much of grit and determination at this tender age. These boys are special and all of them have a very bright future ahead.” Prosanta Chanda quoted.
Aryan Thapar rightfully took home the Best Batter award for his century in the first innings. Rishitraj Singh Rongkali was named the best bowler, Aaditya M. Gupta the best all-rounder and Aarush Kajaria the best fielder. Somil Khandelwar won the award for the ‘Most Promising Player’ and Ethan Jude Carneiro was crowned the ‘Emerging Player’ from the match.
The young boys from both teams were also fortunate to have their talent and glory witnessed by chief guests, Mr. Varun Nayanar (Team India U-19 Player) and Mr. Aryan Lakra (Team UAE U-19 captain). Both began their cricketing careers at DPS Dubai.
Mr. Prosanta Chanda added, DPS Centre has also produced players like Aditya Shetty along with Neelansh Keshwani who are currently UAE under 19 team members & recently won the U19 WC plate category. Rahul Bhatia is also from DPS Centre and is playing in the current UAE team.
Such Test Championship is organised to inspire the DPS Centre boys to achieve the accolades as their peers have done is past.
