The SYL summer camp is being held remotely this year to ensure the health and safety of participants in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In keeping with its objective to empower girls with new skills and allow them to make productive use of their time during the vacation period, SYL is offering a series of expert workshops and training courses under 6 programmes approved by the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation. These include literature and languages, science and technology, arts and entrepreneurship, and life skills and fashion designing.
Speaking on the launch of the virtual summer camps, Sheikha Aisha Al Qasimi, Director of SYL, said: “We are organising the summer camp remotely this year to ensure that girls can undertake safe and productive activities while exploring their hidden potential and developing their talents to achieve their aspirations. Our inspiring workshops are tailored to enrich their knowledge and nurture their creativity. The camp enhances their resiliency and is an effective way to retain learning and follow their passion for knowledge over the summer break.”
Under the camp’s ‘Entrepreneurship programme’, young girls will learn the basics of business management through workshops conducted by a certified instructor. Participants will also learn how to read, write, and speak the Japanese language.
With technology dominating our lives, the ‘Programming’ session will enable young girls to enhance their computer programming skills and provide a platform for them to apply the concepts learnt.
Under the aegis of Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organisation, the ‘Toastmasters Programme’ will boost the communication, public speaking, and leadership skills of the participants.
Participants can explore the language of landscape design and principles of landscape planning with the ‘Interior Design programme’ while the ‘I Accept the Challenge’ programme seeks to motivate SYL members to remain physically active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This is achieved through workshops on healthy cooking and good eating habits, along with fitness classes, panel discussions and weekly competitions.
Young girls can hone their photography skills under the ‘Photography programme’ while the ‘Fashion Design’ programme will help develop skills, style, and creativity of all budding fashionistas.
