Chalhoub Group pledges 1,600 food parcels, lights up 17,000 Burj Khalifa pixels

Dubai, UAE, 06 May 2020 – In a pour of donations, Dubai-based Chalhoub Group donated 1,600 food parcels, equivalent to 17,000 meals, to support coronavirus-hit individuals and families in UAE as part the World’s Tallest Donation Box.

The Group’s in-kind donation will light up 17,000 pixels on Burj Khalifa, as part of the initiative that aims to illuminate the 1.2 million lights on the world’s tallest building, securing 1.2 million meals and food parcels for the ’10 million meals’ campaign.

Launched on Saturday, the World’s Tallest Donation Box enables companies, entities and the public to purchase lights of Burj Khalifa, for as little as Dh10 each. For every light purchased for Dh10 through the website, one meal is provided to someone in need during the holy month of Ramadan as the country continues efforts to combat the pandemic.

Patrick Chalhoub, co-CEO of Chalhoub Group, said, “The global humanitarian initiatives that the UAE launches set a great example of impactful and inspiring projects that brings people together to support those in need. We are proud to be part of this nationwide move that provides safety to the vulnerable.”

He added, “The UAE has granted endless opportunities for the business sector to flourish, and it’s our turn to give back to the society that helped us grow. Everyone has a responsibility to contribute at this critical time.”

Ways to get involved

Companies and individuals can buy Burj Khalifa’s lights, for as little as Dh10 each, on the website to provide meals for the vulnerable amid the pandemic.

Donors can also provide meals through the ’10 million meals’ campaign by contributing on the website or via SMS (Etisalat and Du) to numbers listed on the website. Donors can make a transfer to ’10 million meals’ campaign bank account at Dubai Islamic Bank with IBAN no.:AE430240001580857000001.

Donors also have the chance to provide packaged or canned food supplies or arrange food parcels for distribution through directly contacting the campaign’s organizing team on the toll-free number 8004006.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the launch of the ’10 million meals’ campaign earlier in April to provide food support to families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that left many facing unemployment and income reductions.

The campaign is led by his wife Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of UAE Food Bank.

Under the supervision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and the Social Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19, meals and food parcels are delivered in a logistical distribution network developed in collaboration with partnering entities to reach beneficiaries across the country.
