Kate Spade New York Summer 2020 Collection

Kate Spade New York Summer 2020 Collection

Summer 2020 continues the highly individualistic tone of the spring collection, an eclectic mix of pieces for the kate spade woman to express herself and her style.

It’s inspired by things she’d collect, wear and love all summer on city picnics and pool parties and back to reality again. A lurex cardigan. The perfect summer dress. Raffia flatforms, faded from the sun. A bag shaped like an apple. Ombré beaded necklaces and a chunky strawberry pendant. Friendship bracelets, worn in a stack. Each piece is its own summer memory.

Ready-To-Wear

Ready-to-wear focus on easy pieces meant to be worn all summer long for all kinds of occasions. Soft ruffles, smocking, sheering, strong sleeves are favorite details, as are clean, modern takes on colorblocking. There is black and white gingham in playful mixes of large and small checks, cherry motifs for occasion and casual wear and Calais stripes. Dresses continue to be key, as do jumpsuits. Fabrics are light and breezy: casual cotton voile, tweed with tonal sequins for a touch of shine, spade eyelet and crochet.

Handbags

Handbags and SLGs feature bold prints, preppy patterns and textures, with fruit motifs, gingham and molded wicker sprinkled throughout the assortment. Season-specific fabrications like raffia, crochet, canvas and raffia stripes are, too. Colorblocking and pops of neon in various combinations are our color refresh: Neutrals & neons. Color & white. Neutrals & white & a pop of color.

This season we also introduce our Signature print: a spade flower-patterned jacquard developed with Italian mill Limonta (est. 1893). It’s used alone, layered with a double stripe from our archives or embroidered with cherries.

New styles this season include Roulette, a shoulder bag in two sizes in soft pebbled leather with contrast binding. The mini crossbody can be unclipped and worn on a belt, too. Essential is a sophisticated, understated, lightweight satchel with wide interior pockets and a zipper compartment in a contrast color. It’s topped with a new faceted spade twistlock. Market is a zip-top tote with the feeling of an open one. It comes in canvas, denim and hand-woven stripe canvas. Daily is our new nylon group that boasts lots of interior pockets and functionality. In addition to zip-top totes, a crossbody and swing pack is a baby bag with a front pocket that doubles as a removable pouch to hold a changing pad and diapers.

We also introduce Journey, a functionality-focused nylon travel bag group in fun color combinations. The duffle has a detachable pouch that becomes a crossbody—a three-in-one—plus a mesh bag for laundry. The crossbody pouch features exterior pockets for phone and cards. The pouch wristlet is perfect for documents. And the backpack has a dedicated laptop compartment, a secure black pocket, detachable shoulder strap and a crossbody strap.

Notable in our core groups is a new double gusset shoulder bag in Nicola. It’s softly structured and comes with two straps—webbed and chain. For Toujours, we developed a special textured webbing technique with engineered color. There’s an inflatable take on Vanity, as well as clear resin. We’ve introduced a new work satchel in Louise with a generous center zip compartment, slip pockets and easy-access zip pocket on the front. And in Spencer, a new canteen bag.

In novelty, Portia, our pig-shaped bag in molded leather, returns, as does Tiny the elephant in fun new colors and gingham-print ears. Picnic features apple-, pineapple- and cherry-shaped bags and SLGs in molded leather. (Look close: the apple bag has a leaf zipper pull and a tiny metal worm.) We also reimagined a molded wicker picnic basket-shaped bag from our archives and topped it with cherry charms.

In Make It Mine, there are new colors of our customizable camera bag, plus pockets and straps in seasonal colors and patterns of the season.

Jewelry

In jewelry, fruit, pops of neon and nods to pool inflatables reflect the theme of summer memories. Tutti Frutti is a colorful fruit salad of lemons, cherries and strawberries accented with modern metal details. (Our favorite piece: the charm necklace.) Plus, sparkle-stemmed pearl cherries across necklaces, earrings and rings. Poolside includes resin bracelets and rings inspired by pool inflatables, complete with a metal air stopper detail.

Nods to friendship and love feature throughout the collection. There are elevated friendship bracelets, and a convex/concave bracelet set that is an artful take on a traditional friendship necklace. Infinity features intertwined hearts and spades in gold, topped with a pearl. The delicate spade tails in Sparkling Spade, meanwhile, are touches sparkle, so each spade becomes a tiny heart. In summer’s special Pride collection, there are friendship bracelets reimagined in colorful beading and topped with a faceted heart, a love pendant and cloud-shaped earring in rainbow sparkle.

Stacking and layering continues to be an important theme across all collections and within collections like Pearl Drop, featuring freshwater pearls mixed with pops of bright, glossy enamel alongside all-over freshwater pearl pieces to layer in.

Notable in our core collections this season: Spade Link features sleek chain links in the shape of the spade in a full range of styles. Sliced Scallops has pops of colored enamel in surprising places for peek-a-boo color.

Tech

Color and embellishment as seen in handbags and ready-to-wear trickle down to our smallest everyday devices.

Sleepwear

The summer sleepwear collection is a dreamy mix of soft robes, chemises, pj sets, caftans and sleep shirts in feminine florals and dots, and menswear stripes.

Fashion Accessories

Fashion accessories add the finishing touch to the summer collection, from silky scarves in the season’s color combinations and distinctive prints that match back to ready-to-wear, to universally-flattering sunglasses with feminine details.

Swimwear

Bikinis, bandeaus and one-piece silhouettes accented with distinctly feminine details—soft ruffles, knotting, plunge necklines and halter necks, too—are designed to be mixed and matched. Plus, airy coverup dresses for pool-to-patio afternoons. The prints and colors are vibrant: rainbow plaid, tropical floral and fiji green.
