Arab Health 2020 Conference: Middle East’s healthcare professionals can benefit from English test
27th January, 2020, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Healthcare professionals from across the Middle East can find out how to increase their employability in the UK’s NHS and other English-speaking healthcare environments from the team behind a popular English language test. OET is a specialist English language test for the healthcare sector and is designed to test the English language skills for healthcare professionals who want to work in English-speaking environments. It uses real-life healthcare scenarios to assess all four language skills which are listening, reading, writing and speaking.
The test is jointly owned by the UK’s Cambridge Assessment English (the developers of the renowned IELTS English language test) and Australia’s Box Hill Institute. OET will feature at the upcoming Arab Health event at Dubai’s World Trade Centre. Now in its 45th year, the event has become the largest gathering of healthcare and trades professionals in the Middle East and Africa.
Nassim Abu-Ershaed, Regional Commercial Head at Cambridge Assessment English said: “We’re seeing a huge demand for OET from ambitious healthcare professionals from across the Middle East who want to work in the English-speaking healthcare sector. The test is now recognized by the UK’s medicine and nursing regulators which has boosted this demand even further. One of the secrets to the success of OET is that it is designed to test English using scenarios that doctors and other healthcare professionals are likely to face. This makes it really relevant to the sector and it is fast becoming the English language test you need to have a positive experience of the healthcare sector. We are currently able to test medical professionals in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan and we’re working on creating even more opportunities across the Middle East and Africa region.”
OET is an international English language test that assesses the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who seek to register and practise in an English-speaking environment.
OET results are accepted by healthcare regulators in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Malta, Namibia, Singapore and Ukraine as proof of English language proficiency. The test is also recognised in Australia and New Zealand for visa and immigration purposes, while doctors and nurses in the UK are no longer required to take a separate English language test when applying for a Tier 2 (General) visa.
Available at more than 140 venues in 44 countries, OET is owned by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment, a venture between Cambridge Assessment English and Box Hill Institute, Australia. For more information visit http://www.occupationalenglishtest.org.
