THINK LOCAL: SWyP market outside THE BOX SUPPORTS HOME-GROWN businesses

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 22 January 2020: Running until 1 February at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai, the Swyp Market Outside the Box (MOTB), organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), supports Dubai-based entrepreneurs and local vendors selling everything from bespoke jewellery and fashionable items to home accessories.

The annual pop-up, al fresco marketplace provides promising entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase and sell their bespoke products and establish themselves at the 25th Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).  Each year, Swyp MOTB is committed to featuring some of the finest Dubai-based vendors and their products. The annual marketplace paves the way for local brands and helps them create brand awareness and build their businesses.

More than 80 vendors have been carefully selected to create a curated shopping experience for those who have come to know they can find real treasures at the annual al fresco market. As DSF celebrates its “Dubai Has Talent Week”, Dubai showcases its talents across all activations and events, as evident with some of the retailers showcasing exclusive pieces at Swyp MOTB this year, which include – All that Dori; Caroline Syedbom Jewellery; iScream; Janna Charskaya Accessories; Zalxndra; the 5154; By Mahsa; Nesli&han for traditional ghutras and caftans and Duet Luxury. F&B vendors are also offering exclusive dishes that will tantalise taste buds at this year’s market include; Pink Burger famous for their vegan quinoa burgers; The Roost Rotisserie; and everyone’s favourite stuffed Churros – Loopitas.

In addition to those, MOTB has now expanded with the participation of global brands such as the internationally renowned and loved sneaker brand Nike, which has a customisation stand where customers can get their shoes designed to their taste.

Returning for the second year, Melanie from Glissing Design commented on the brand’s exposure at Swyp MOTB: “Swyp Market Outside the Box gave us fantastic exposure last year. It allowed us to be exposed to a wider customer base including tourists. We have been able to connect with different vendors from across the UAE and the region. This year I am collaborating with vendors I met last year. We are a small, home-grown business here in Dubai – we manufacture and design here, so Swyp MOTB is a great way to expose our products and to network.” This year Glissing Design will display a wide range of kimonos, wrap skirts, necklaces, beautiful leather sandals, bags and accessories at Swyp MOTB.

Taking part at Swyp MOTB, Anna from Zalxndra, a home accessories brand said: “We’re taking part at Swyp MOTB this year to showcase our products to new potential customers. It’s a great way to meet people and get their feedback on our products. It’s a personal experience for both customers and the business.”

Fiona from the online fashion brand Kardia said: “My business is mostly online so Swyp Market Outside the Box is a great opportunity for customers to see my products in person.”

Mina from JAVIER’S, a Swyp MOTB veteran exhibitor returning for the seventh year reaffirmed her commitment to the annual marketplace. She said: “We’ve been taking part in Swyp MOTB for the past seven years and it’s always been amazing exposure for us as a business. We’re looking forward to another successful year!”

Exhibiting for the first time, Elinana from African Avenue says Swyp MOTB is a great platform to showcase her products. “African Avenue is a group of fashion, jewelry and homeware designers that have come together to showcase African styles. It’s difficult for small businesses in Dubai to find a space where we can sell our products and still get good exposure. We thought Swvp MOTB would be a great place for us to try and test our new venture. We want to provide a full opportunity for customers to experience the African Culture. We will not only be selling our products but also providing workshops, activities, painting. We even have a traditional African dancer visiting us.”

After achieving success at Swyp MOTB 2019, Lisette from Caronline Svedom Jewellery said: “Last year, MOTB was very good for the brand. We gained new customers from the weekend and had our existing customers returning to us. On the last weekend of the festival this year we will hold an exclusive pre-launch of our new collection.”

Swvp MOTB is the flagship festival market activation of DSF and this year to mark the celebrations for the 25th edition of the shopping festival, six more markets have been added to the calendar of events. The DSF Markets include; Al Khawaneej Market, a winter wonderland; Al Rigga Market which brings a sense of nostalgia to visitors; Al Seef Market which helps visitors elevate their Instagram game; City Walk Market, one where the future is realised; Dubai Festival City Mall to  keep the whole family entertained; and Hatta Market which will where visitors can get active in the mountains.

Swyp MOTB will run until 1 February at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai, from 4pm to 10pm on weekdays, 4pm to 11:30pm on Thursdays and 11am to 11:30pm on weekends. The market is sponsored by Swyp, Liv. Digital Bank, UAE’s fastest growing bank, National Foods Product Company Oasis and Lacnor, SanDisk and Emaar.
