Melani Sabhaney Explores New Forms and Materials with Her Debut Furniture Collection
Eden, a three-piece furniture collection, proudly made in UAE, will make its official debut at Downtown Design on November 12, 2019
Dubai, UAE – October 4, 2019 – In today’s world of mass production, UAE-based interior design and architecture studio Interspace, led by Melani Sabhaney, builds on the drive for greater personalization with its first custom-made furniture collection. Dubbed Eden, the collection caters to both the hospitality and residential sectors and will make its official debut at Downtown Design in November.
A three-piece furniture range, includes a bar credenza, lounge sofa and a nest of coffee tables, all made from high-quality natural materials, combined with painted glass and resin art created by Dina Khattan. Following the lines of nature, with an accent on the richness of shapes, materials, and colors, Eden collection represents a genuine art and design collaborative with endless possibilities to mix and match.
Eden Collection also encourages a greater synergy between traditional and contemporary designs, promoting more sustainable practices of using locally sourced materials and craftsmanship. This bespoke collection is entirely produced locally at MFit factory in Ajman, allowing them to fully control all aspects of the design, from concept to development to final production stage.
Interspace’s co-founder Melani Sabhaney has been a creative force behind some of the studio’s landmark projects, including Emirates First Class lounge, Sunset Mall, DoubleTree by Hilton in RAK as well as numerous residential villas in UAE and abroad. Her approach to both interior and furniture design exemplifies her precise attention to detail and respect for uncompromising quality and design originality.
Melani Sabhaney comments: “The beauty of Eden collection lies in its flexibility and the fact that is produced for designers by designers. When working with our clients, especially on residential and hospitality projects, we see there is a constant need for furniture, which can fit a particular space and a certain style. Invariably, such pieces are not available at the time and cost that we need. Eden collection is an extension of that need as we wanted to create a collection that is very design-specific but also cost-efficient and with shorter delivery times.”
Eden Nest of Coffee Tables – The practicality of having a nest of coffee tables with an unusual combination of shapes, not only makes it an attractive artistic centerpiece but when broken apart, each piece can be used as an end table. Appreciating nature’s organic forms, the fluid shaped metal base in bronze finish blends seamlessly into its abstract-shaped glass top, enforced with resin art. With different glass, wooden, marble or stone tops and different metal base finishes, Eden coffee tables allow endless combinations.
Eden Two-Seater Sofa – With its smooth intersecting curved back and a soft flouted shape, Eden two-seater sofa invites you to sit and unwind comfortably. This elegant sofa is perfectly finished with beautiful metal legs in bronze finish. Eden sofa, keeping in mind the soft contrasts of nature, comes in high-quality pastel upholstery in two shades that are complimenting one another.
Eden Bar credenza – Thanks to its smooth and gracefully curved silhouette, Eden bar credenza serves as an accent piece in one’s living room while its interiors can be customized to suit a variety of purposes. A well-conceived bar unit comes with multiple accessories for practical usage while its high-gloss painted exterior features art-printed glass shutters, enriched with bronze handles and trims. Its interior is simple and celebrates the beautiful nature of rich walnut wood.

MEET MELANI: UAE-based design director and co-founder of Interspace, Melani Sabhaney is everything, but your typical interior designer. Growing up in Chennai, India, in a large and vibrant family with three brothers, Melani’s no-frills and no-nonsense attitude define both her personality and design practice.
Soon after graduating from BMS College of Architecture in Bangalore, Melani decided to start her practice, learning to manage the design, clients, and the business the hard way – as she went along. Always hungry for new experiences and challenges, Melani then moved to Dubai in 1999 – “just to test the waters” – working for the National Engineering Bureau, as one of its very first employees.
Having the courage to trust her gut instinct, Melani branched out on her own in 2005 and founded Interspace, together with her business partner, Paul Ninan. And, she never looked back.
Today, after working more than 25 years in the field of architecture, design, and build industry, Melani brings extensive hands-on experience in delivering complex, turn-key projects across residential, retail, and hospitality sectors in the GCC, India and the Far East.
As an excellent listener, Melani injects all of her projects with a proper balance between creativity and functionality, layering both contemporary and timeless designs with her client’s inputs. Designing with and for the people, she prides herself on creating spaces that truly reflect the taste of her clients.
