UK’S CELEBRITY CHEF SIMON WOOD JOINS DUBAI’S MASTERCHEF, THE TV EXPERIENCE
The MasterChef UK (2015) winner to cook up a five-course menu during week-long residency at Dubai’s world-first screen-to-plate restaurant concept
Woods to start five-day restaurant residency with limited seating masterclass on September 30
08 September 2019: Simon Wood, the MasterChef UK Season 11 winner, is the latest TV champion confirmed for a guest chef residency at MasterChef, the TV Experience – the world-first, screen-to-plate restaurant concept in Millennium Place Marina.
Wood will take-over the kitchen at MasterChef, the TV Experience, from September 30 to October 4, including an exclusive ‘Masterclass’ on September 30 where the TV star will conduct a Q&A with diners and oversee a cooking tutorial featuring two main course dishes available throughout his Dubai residency.
Open to a maximum of 10 guests, the ‘Wood Masterclass’ session will see participants indulge in canapes throughout the session, before both mains are served to each participant. Held from 5-7pm, the hotly-anticipated course is priced at AED 489 with soft drinks, or AED 649 with house grape.
“After flying to Dubai in April for the opening of the first-ever MasterChef, the TV Experience restaurant, I’ve spent the last couple of months trialing different dishes that I believe will appeal to the city’s cosmopolitan population of discerning diners,” said Woods.
“It’s a real honour to be invited to host a residency at the restaurant – I’m sure it’s going to take me right back to 2015 when we filmed the show, especially as the dessert I’m serving is the same one I created for judges during the final cook-off!”
For Wood’s residency menu, diners can look forward to a five-course menu starting with Asparagus Panna Cotta Amuse Bouche (wild asparagus, shelled peas, parmesan foam, panko parmesan crumb, micro thyme) followed by a Wagyu Tartare starter (wagyu tartare, oyster emulsion salty fingers, sea purslane, onion embers, coal coil).
Two main choices include Roasted Monkfish with Oxtail Ragu (roasted monkfish, Beaujolais oxtail ragu, oyster mushroom cream, pickled shimeji, trompette de la mort, white chanterelle), or an Artichoke and Celeriac Risotto (sunchokes, Granny Smith apples, celeriac risotto, white Stilton gnocchi, linseed, chervil)
A sweet finish is then guaranteed with a Strawberry Shortcake Amouse-gueule (strawberry sorbet, dehydrated meringue, shortbread), followed by Wood’s epic Citrus Tutti-Frutti (lemon posset, ruby grapefruit gel, burnt grapefruit, tuile, verbena) – the dessert saw him crowned MasterChef UK champion in 2015.
The drinks pairing menu features Simon’s own ‘New Fashioned’, red and white grape, as well as a ‘POP-Fizz’ for AED 410. A pure food menu can be enjoyed for AED 240 for all five courses.
