Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 12 June, 2019: The Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition – DIHAD, which is a pioneering annual event for the world’s top humanitarian leaders in Dubai, has successfully attended the Warsaw Humanitarian Expo 2019, taking place in Nadarzyn, near Warsaw, from the 11th to the 13th of June in the capital city of Poland.
The 3-day gathering in Warsaw is being held under the patronage of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda and brings together key decision-makers, experts from the government and private sector, NGO’s and other charity organizations from Poland and abroad.
The opening ceremony of Warsaw Humanitarian Expo, witnessed the attendance of a high-level delegation of Poland, comprising senior government officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Jacek Czaputowicz and other dignitaries. Gerhard Putman-Cramer, Director, DIHAD International Scientific Advisory Board – DISAB, accompanied by a number of senior officials, leading figures and personnel representing DIHAD’s organizing committee and other senior staff members.
Commenting on his participation as a keynote speaker in ‘Warsaw Humanitarian Expo’ in Poland during a high-level panel titled ‘Future of Innovation Aid’, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani said, “The UAE has become the capital of the humanitarian aid in the world. Whenever there is a country that needs help, the UAE is the first to provide the helping hand without any hidden intentions or agendas. There are more than 30 humanitarian and charity organizations in the UAE, they are our partners in DIHAD and they make sure to be present and active every year. In addition to that there are hundreds of international NGO’s and UN agencies who are also present and our job is to combine their efforts and visions to the benefit of human beings all over the world.”
While speaking about the importance of donors, Dr. Al Madani added, “At DIHAD, we do recognize that donors play a very critical role in bridging the gap and helping disburse the much-needed and essential funds in extremely dire circumstances facing the needy and their contribution is based on ‘trust’. There has to be an element of trust between the donors and the organizations receiving the donations, because if the donors believe that their donations are not reaching the needy, there will be a massive distrust and the whole operation will face unnecessary complications, which will have a huge impact on the overall operation.”
Moreover, the panel discussion was moderated by Patrycja Sasnal from the Polish Institute of International Affairs while also featuring the presence of many top experts from Poland, Ukraine and senior representatives of many UN bodies and NGO’s including Jacek Czaputowicz, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Mark Lowcock, Under Secretary General, UN OCHA, Riad Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine, Ulana Suprun, MD, Acting Minister of Health of Ukraine and Umra Omar, Founder of Safari Doctors, who explored the solutions to many pressing questions such as ‘What are the challenges for humanitarian action? Who are the key current and new actors and do they hold the answer to the future of humanitarian financing? How can the accountability, coordination and effectiveness of all diverse resources be improved?
The panel highlighted that the humanitarian system is under increasing pressure due to growing fragility and complex crises. New types of partnerships and actors must bring their specific skills and expertise to address these challenges of changing world.
Warsaw Humanitarian Expo 2019 is the first event of its type fair organized in Central and Eastern Europe and is Europe’s largest trade fair devoted to global humanitarian and development aid and DIHAD’s participation underscores its active role on the international global stage dealing with humanitarian crises in the countries affected by them.
