Young Visitor Vanquishes the ‘Darth Vader’ at SCRF 2019

Characters from the Star Wars series pull young visitors into a fantastical world at Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival 2019

Sharjah, April 18, 2019:‘Star Wars’ fans may never have dreamt that they would see the original Dark Lord, Darth Vader, his nemesis Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia there in the flesh at the inaugural day of the 11th annual Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2019).

However, they not only saw them battle it out on stage at a Comic Station session titled ‘Galaxy Warriors’, a young schoolgirl was even co-opted to fight on the side of Good against the Evil Lord, complete with a ‘lightsabre’, the weapon of choice for characters from one of the highest grossing Hollywood series.

Batul, a 10 year old girl, was thrilled when she was chosen from among the dozen children who volunteered to help the Forces of Good fight Darth Vader on stage and eventually vanquish him. She learnt to use a lightsabre within a span of a few minutes and dealt the death blow to the Dark Lord, that had not only the children in the audience but also the adults cheering and asking to pose for photographs with them.

Visitors to SCRF 2019, which runs until April 27 at Expo Centre Sharjah under the theme ‘Discover Knowledge’, can see up to 80 activities that will celebrate the world of comics at a dedicated ‘Comic Station’.

SCRF is one of the most important cultural events dedicated to children in the UAE and greater Arab region. It has gone beyond being a book exhibition and developed into an integrated event that contributes to enriching the knowledge of visitors with science and literature.
