CFD SUSTAINABLE FASHION WINNERS

DUBAI BASED FASHION AND DESIGN COLLEGE AWARDED STUDENTS

December, 2018 – Dubai: The College of Fashion and Design in Dubai awarded trophies and scholarships to the winners who participated in the Sustainable Fashion Competition.

With an aim to educate and spread awareness amongst the youth, CFD designed a competition that brought forth ground-breaking concepts and ideas in creating sustainable designs. Budding fashion designers from over 27 UAE schools participated in this competition and presented their designs under three categories; 1. Zero waste fashion 2. Up-cycling fashion, and 3. Reconstruction of waste textile.

Leading judge of the competition, Moussa Daya from Si Fashion picked the final winners of the competition. Fashion designer Moussa Daya has over 23 years’ experience and knowledge in the technical and operational aspects of fashion. With a fashion degree from Y Institute, Beirut, Moussa’s extensive experience in styling, pattern making, design and quality control added immense value to the judging process.

The top three winners received 70 per cent scholarship at CFD; the first runners up walked away with 50 per cent scholarships and the second runners up walked with 30 per cent scholarships. In addition, one full scholarship was also awarded to special needs participant.

CFD offers a comprehensive curriculum covering both creative Fashion and Design skills along with the essential Business and Communication skills necessary to be successful in the competitive world of fashion. Students are able to complete a 2 Year Diploma in Fashion and Design and continue seamlessly for a further 2 years to complete a well-recognized Bachelor degree in Fashion Design or in Fashion Business Management.

CFD is well-equipped with professional-quality fashion and innovation labs containing industrial sewing machines, ironing machines, a 3D printer, a laser cutter and an embroidery machine. A computer lab with MAC computers for digital design and a full-service Nikon photography lab are available for students to develop their skills. The CFD library boasts an exciting collection of Fashion and Business books, magazines, and films as well as access to three comprehensive databases of online resources.
