Records Galore at T10 League – creating history in the UAE – a nation celebrating success at the 47th National Day
Date: Dubai, December 2, 2018 : Records are created to be broken. That has been proven again and again in the T10 League – the world’s first and so far only professional ten-over format cricket league. The Second Season of the T10 League, which is taking place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from November 21 to December 2, 2018, has seen a number of world records being created, broken and re-created.
The memorable 2nd Season of the T10 League produced some exciting moments and a number of records that were broken to recreate new records within hours and days!
The Second Season of the T10 League also raised the possibility of an individual scoring a century in ten overs, as Alex Hales came to the closest with 87 not out. It looks like he was running out of balls to score a century.
As the UAE celebrates its 47th National Day, the world’s most popular cricketing venue, Sharjah Cricket Stadium sees the birth of an sporting innovation – the ten-over format cricket – that none of the cricket playing countries dared to launch on a professional level.
His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, said, the T10 League has been a huge success and will re-position the UAE in the global cricket map, while meeting teams and speaking to a packed crowd at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday evening.
“The UAE is a country of peace, harmony and tolerance, where nationals of more than 200 countries live happily and in harmony. It is due to the peaceful and harmonious environment, we see innovative steps are undertaken and the T10 League is an important innovative step that will popularise the game of cricket and this is emerging from the UAE and will spread to the world,” Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister for Tolerance and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, told the audience, who were watching T10 League matches.
“The first edition of the T10 League in 2017 was witnessed by thousands of cricket lovers at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and watched by millions of cricket fans across the cricketing world, saw a total of 2,914 runs scored in 13 matches that was powered by 245 boundaries and 172 sixes.
“More than 73.2 percent of the total 2,914 came through boundaries while the highest team score touched 132-run mark and the record for the highest individual score hit 69,” Sheikh Nahyan said.
“Earlier, the batsmen used to dominate the T10 League. But now I see the bowlers are also coming back strongly to dominate the match as it becomes interesting,” he said this while watching the match between Northern Warriors and Rajputs – an innings dominated by bowlers as they restricted Rajputs to 64 for 8 in 10 overs.”
Highest Team Total Run Record
First, the newcomers Northern Warriors smash 183 in 10 overs – the highest in the first ten overs in any cricket format – a new world record! That translates to more than three runs per ball – will be hard to crack – for some time. This is the highest T10 League score by any team and by far the highest score in any given ten overs in any format!

Another record was made when Afghan opener Mohammed Shahzad equalled world record of fastest 50 in 12 balls on Wednesday, 21st November 2018, the inaugural match T10 League season 2. His 74 was the highest individual score in the T10 format, which lasted for just 11 days, when Jonny Bairstow, the English Test cricketers whacked an unbeaten 84 off 24 balls including six fours and eight sixes for Kerala Kings – to create a new world record.
However, this record was broken by Alex Hales who blasted 87 not out on December 1, 2018. Mohammed Shahzad’s 74 score is now the sixth highest!
Nicholas Pooran scored the highest individual scores of 306 in eight matches, followed by Andre Fletcher who scored 267 in 7 encounters. Pooran also hit 10 sixes – the highest in an innings – when he scored 77 against Punjabi Legends. He also holds the record of hitting the highest number of sixes in the T10 League – 31 in total – in 8 innings.
Beside these records, Pakistani all-rounder playing for the team Bengal Tigers, Aamer Yamin, created history with 4 wickets in 4 consecutive deliveries against Northern Warriors on Thursday, 22ndNovember 2018.
The same day, veteran Indian cricketer 47-year-ol Pravin Tambe took 5 wickets for 15, including a hat-trick.
Hardus Viljoen remained the league’s top bowler with 16 wickets from eight innings that he played.

T10 League, the world’s first 10-over international professional cricket league that is licensed by Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) – making it the world’s first professional first-class cricket league in the ten-over format.
The T10 League matches are telecast live through Sony ESPN and Sony ESPN in India, Ten Sports in Pakistan, Ten Cricket in Middle East and North Africa. It is also streamed on SonyLIV.
The 2018 edition that started on November 21 and spread over 12 days, concludes on December 2, 2018 with a total of 29 matches as compared to a 4-day event in 2017.
Eight teams – Kerala Knights, Punjab Legends, Maratha Arabians, Bengal Tigers, Sindhis, Rajputs, Northern Warriors and Pakhtoons – have been drawn in to two groups to fight it out in the 2nd Season of T10 League – that takes place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from November 21 to December 2, 2018.
The T10 League is live telecast in the GCC, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom and the United States – followed by millions of fans – watching the actions of some of the most popular cricket stars, such as Zaheer Khan, Shane Watson, Shahid Afridi, Eoin Morgan, Rasheed Khan, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Darren Sammy, among many others.
