UAE-Dubai-20 of November 2018: Albwardy Damen, a joint venture providing shipbuilding and ship repair services to the marine and oil and gas related industries in the Middle East, recently officially inaugurated its new facility at the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) with approximately 100 attendees who were present at the event from both government and key industry makers such as Dubai Maritime City and Dubai Maritime City Authority.

The new opening also comes at the time of their 40th anniversary celebrations in the UAE along with its 10th anniversary for a successful joint venture with the Dutch shipyards “Damen”.

Well known as a leading shipbuilding and repair service provider for the Middle East Maritime Industry, Albwardy Damen operates in Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah; driven by its commitment to achieving excellence through abiding by technical and environmental standards. With an aim to increase its operations and foster strong relations with clients, the company has expanded to Dubai Maritime City (DMC) from Al Jadaf. The new facility became recently operational allowing it to deliver the same safety standards and quality services promised to customers.

With a move to Dubai Maritime City (DMC) from Al Jadaf, Albwardy Damen anticipates an increase in operations and is optimistic of opportunities to foster strong relations with new clients Lars Seistrup, Managing Director, Albwardy Damen explained, “Our new Dubai facility will allow us to deliver the same safety and quality as in our Sharjah yard. Dubai Maritime City is strategically located at heart of Dubai which makes it the most attractive destination and we will deliver a second to none service to our customers.”

Expansion of services within the UAE
The company has a total workforce of around 1100 comprising of 26 different nationalities and harbors key competencies in house, with an extensive engineering division dedicated for repairing and building vessels according to the highest technical and environmental standards. It is also certified by LRQA to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 as well as API Q1.
H.E Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) commented, “Our main objective is to establish Dubai as a hub par excellence in the maritime industry.

According to the latest company news, Albwardy Damen found success on the shipbuilding front earlier this year through the delivery of the world’s biggest Rotortug, ART 100-46 the “RT Raven” which has been specifically designed to meet the offshore field’s unique marine service requirements. Furthermore, the company also delivered an ASD 2913 Tug to SAQR Port in July 2018 and a liftboat to Aqua Diving Services.

As of late September 2018, the company owns the busiest syncrolift in the world. During the first half of 2018, Albwardy Damen has built and repaired upwards of 100 vessels and predicts a similar outcome to last year’s tallies, targeting to achieve better results. The company has recently awarded with “Shipyard of the Year” from Seatrade Middle East 2018.

Damen Shipyards Group operates 35 shipbuilding and repair yards, employing 12,000 people worldwide. Damen has delivered more than 6,000 vessels in more than 100 countries and delivers some 160 vessels annually to customers worldwide. Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has a worldwide network of eighteen repair and conversion yards of which twelve are located in North West Europe. Facilities at the yards include more than 50 floating and (covered) drydocks, the largest of which is 420 x 90 metres, as well as slopes, ship lifts and indoor halls. Projects range from the smallest simple repairs through Class’ maintenance to complex refits and the complete conversion of large offshore structures. DSC completes around 1,300 repair and maintenance jobs annually, both at yards as well as in ports and during voyage.
