The competition kicked off for the men yesterday with the first wave of the two-day men’s qualifying rounds

The top performing men’s teams from yesterday and today (Friday) will face the final obstacle for a chance to win AED 1 million on 12th May

The world-first initiative from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was built to promote team work and team spirit within government entities

Dubai, 11th May 2018 – Day two of Gov Games on Kite Beach, Dubai began yesterday with 45 men’s teams that were put through their paces to complete nine challenging obstacles. Local public sector teams competed against international government teams such as the LAPD, UK Metropolitan Police, U.S Consulate General in Dubai and Thailand Royal Tourist Police in remarkable displays of mental and physical agility throughout the nine obstacles.

The competition at Gov Games is fierce as each obstacle has been designed to test both strategic thinking and fitness levels and each obstacle has several grueling stages which are monitored by a group of judges who score points on teamwork, technique and speed. The Executive Council will continue to oversee the organization of the Gov Games in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council and Meraas as the official sponsor.

The following teams scored the top points in the first qualifying round for men:
Ministry of Education – 140.5 points
Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation – 139 points
Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship – 138.5 points
Ministry of Defense – 131 points
UK Metropolitan Police -131 points
Dubai Municipality – 125.5 points

Today, the second and final qualifying round for men will take place on Kite Beach and six teams who achieve the highest points from today and yesterday’s qualifiers will move through to the final stage of the competition tomorrow (12th May); from 7:00pm both the top performing six teams for both the men’s and women’s qualifiers will face “Storm”, the final mega obstacle which has been kept under wraps.

Tonight’s excitement levels are higher than ever as His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council will be leading his team (Team F3) in the first ever Gov Games. This is a testament to his support for the initiative and the overall importance of promoting teamwork and team spirit among government employees which will be the overriding legacy for the Gov Games.

The organizing entity and the public await heated competition between participating teams to find out who will complete challenging obstacles such as the ‘Human Ladder’ and ‘Iron Grip’ which none of the teams have been able to complete so far in the competition.

The first qualifying round for the men’s team was attended by several Ministers and Secretary Generals supporting their teams which is a reflection of true spirit. The attendees included; Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, H.E. Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, His Excellency Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai, H.E. Abdulla Khalifa Al Merri, Chief of Dubai Police, H.E. Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of DTCM, H.E Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, H.E. Saeed Hareb, General Secretary of Dubai Sports Council, Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai and H.E. Khalifa Hassan Bin Drai, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.

Several teams have been captained by top leaders such as; Abdulla bin Touq Al Mari Secretary General of the Cabinet who led the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Future team, HE Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Knowledge and Human

Development Authority who led the Knowledge and Human Development Authority team and HE Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation.

The finale obstacle – Storm – has been kept secret and will be seen for the first time tomorrow by competitors and the supporting public. Tomorrow Saturday will be the final chance for members of the public to come and support the teams and to see them take on a completely new obstacle which has been created to push them as a team further than the qualifying obstacles. Teams will need to dig deep and unify to show courage, mental and physical stamina, stamina and bravery. The winning men’s and women’s team will each be presented with a special Gov Games cup and a team prize of AED 1 million, to be distributed equally between the participants.

The Gov Games are held in partnership between the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai and the Dubai Sports Council, with support from Meraas Holding as an official sponsor.
