⦁ Eat healthily before commencing the fast. Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, beans, root vegetables and nuts can help you get through the day and provide nourishment to the body for a longer period of time.
⦁ Avoid caffeine at Suhoor as it will make the body feel more dehydrated quickly.
⦁ Eat plenty of different kinds of vegetables such as greens, roots and ground vegetables during Suhoor and Iftar time. The change in sleeping patterns affects the overall well-being and it’s vitally important to eat the right type of foods.
⦁ The best exercise during Ramadan is walking. Avoid any sport that can leave you feeling exhausted or tired. Conserve energy, but try to get outside (heat permitting)
⦁ Suhoor and Iftar should include vegetable soups with no added oil and or salt.
⦁ Drink plenty of liquids which contain vital minerals before and after the fast.
⦁ Break the fast slowly, do not consume a very large meal immediately. Let your body adjust and eat small portions.
⦁ At the time of Suhoor, avoid foods such as desserts and sugar laden sweets. Greasy and oily food can also make the body feel hungry or thirsty during the day so try to avoid these as well.
⦁ Plan your meals carefully and limit your portions as over eating can lead to less sleep and in turn more stress and anxiety.
⦁ Sun exposure during fasting should be minimized as it can be harmful for the body and always avoid peak hours in the heat which will deplete your body of moisture and make you feel fatigued.
