Nikon MEA and National Geographic Abu Dhabi announce Season 2 of Reality TV Show ‘I am a Nat Geo Photographer’
Photography centric reality TV Show to Premiere on National Geographic Abu Dhabi in the Middle East
Abu Dhabi, UAE, 19th March 2018: Nikon Middle East FZE in partnership with National Geographic Abu Dhabi announce the new season of reality TV show, ‘I am a Nat Geo Photographer’ offering an unprecedented opportunity for aspiring photographers from around the Arab world to showcase their photography skills. Nikon has always been instrumental in building the photography culture and community across the GCC. Through this show, four aspiring photographers will traverse the United Arab Emirates and explore scenic landscapes in search of the perfect shot under expert guidance of renowned photographers.
‘I am a Nat Geo Photographer’ reflects Nikon’s and National Geographic Abu Dhabi’s partnership and shared mission to nurture the development of Arab youth photographers across the region. In addition to the expert mentoring contestants will receive during the show, they will also receive pre show intensive training at the prestigious Nikon school in the UAE, where they will further sharpen their creative and technical skills and mastery of the camera. The photography equipment that the contestants will use in each episode are from Nikon’s range of professional cameras based on the theme of that episode.
Narendra Menon, Managing Director, Nikon Middle East FZE said, “We are very happy to have found a partner like National Geographic Abu Dhabi that understands the impact photographs can have. This aligns perfectly well with our aim to provide a platform for young photographers in the region to explore their talents. We truly believe that there are a lot of untold stories in the region that are yet to see the light of the day. By empowering young talent, we want them to be at the helm of the narrative by providing them with quality solutions and global exposure. We look forward to yet another season of stunning photographs and great television.”
The show will follow the four photographers as they embark on a quest to find the perfect photograph worthy of the National Geographic’s Al Arabiya magazine. The four-part show will take you on a visual journey across the UAE as the contestants tackle various challenges. Unlike most reality shows, there will be no eliminations and wildcards as the sole focus remains on photography. The participants will be mentored by experts throughout their journey and will also be a part of an intensive training programme at the prestigious Nikon school in UAE. Hitting the trifecta, the 2018 season aims to encourage local photography talent, introduce the viewers to the iconic locales of the UAE and find the next Steve McCurry for the Nat Geo magazine. The show will be hosted by Saudi media personality, Tariq Edrees. Joining him as the main Judge on the show is the renowned photographer, Marwa Abu Laila. She is the founder of Photopia, a forum for photographers and is the publisher of Photo Egypt. Under her stewardship and aided by Guest Judges, each photographer will receive expert guidance to guide them through the tasks.
The contestants are a lesson in diversity, hailing from different regions. Obaid Al Budoor hails from the UAE and has been in the field for eight years. He is passionate about traveling and finds solace in exploring nature. Hesham Al Humaid is a young Saudi health management technician who picked up the camera at an early age. Since then, he has combined his love of exploration and photography into stunning visual masterpieces. Representing Beirut, is Cynthia Ghousoub, a young Lebanese photographer and artist who employs various media to explore themes of self, memory and social identity. Completing the tally is Amina Sabry, a freelance Egyptian photographer based in Cairo who specializes in food and wildlife photography.
The series will unveil the winning photographer at the end of the fourth episode. The winner will be decided by an impartial points system that will take into account both technical and artistic talent. The winner will receive Nikons’ top of line photography equipment worth $7,500 as well as an all-expense-paid National Geographic photography Expedition Trip to Tanzania worth over $10,000. Last not the least, the winner’s photographs will be published in the National Geographic Al Arabiya magazine.
‘I am a Nat Geo Photographer’ premieres on National Geographic Abu Dhabi on March 20, 21:00 KSA/22:00 UAE, with episodes to air at the same time every Tuesday. The finale will be on April 10, 2018
